Stuff to Know
Suggested use is for EXPERIENCED backcountry snowmobilers and/or backcountry skiers/snowboarders, and those who use snowmobiles to access ski/snowboard terrain. Renters should be knowledgeable of avalanches/avalanche terrain, and be self-sufficient in all aspects of responsible backcountry travel and/or rescue.
No pets allowed.
Please restock what wood you use for the following guests.
Please turn off all propane when you leave.
Please pack out what you pack in, and leave the cabin clean for the next guests.
Please be aware of, and respect all wilderness boundaries in the area.
Unfortunately, because of the nature of renting such a remote backcountry facility, no refunds can be given for cancellations.
Check maps, weather forecasts and trail grooming reports before you go.
Please be safe when backcountry snowmobiling/snowboarding/skiing in the Sheepshead Cabin/Prospect Mountain and Elwood Pass/Summitville area.
General Information
The cabin sits approximately 20 miles from highway 160.
Park Creek road is the recommended route to acres the cabin and is groomed by the South Fork Powder Busters snowmobile club from November through the end of February. The road is then plowed all the way to the Summitville Mine and to an elevation of over 11,000 ft. Plowing takes about 2 weeks depending on depth of snow, and can make it harder to access the cabin during this time. Use the grooming report link for updates on the condition of Park Creek road. Other routes are available (Elwood Pass, Pinos Creek,Pass Creek/Tucker Ponds, or driving as far as you can on the partially plowed Park Creek). After plowing is completed, vehicles can drive to, and park @ the FSR #330/#380 split, where you can park your truck/trailer, and then snowmobile from that point. At this time, the cabin is also available to non-motorized traffic, as the cabins sits approximately 3 miles from this point. (March-May)
